THE ART OF TAE KWON DO
In the truest sense, an artist strives for perfection, be it to capture an image in a painting, or perform a dance faultlessly. The term artist is used to describe a person that competes only against themselves, not looking for any other reward other than satisfaction in perfection. Some techniques performed in Tae Kwon Do cannot be practiced on an opponent, so the student will probably never use it, and so must practice improvement without the reward of knowing if it would have actually been effective.
THE SPORT OF TAE KWON DO
As with most sports, an individual can test themselves against an opponent in a controlled and measured environment, this will help provide a valuable measure in their ability over time, it also provides an invaluable form of motivation for physical development. By nature when competing against others, it affords the student the interaction in both winning and losing, and as such the humility that should be nurtured in a student of Tae Kwon Do, ‘No man is an island divided from the main’...
