The roots of learning
The roots of learning... Just as a seed puts out its first root, the student is starting to test the environment for feedback looking for any information to help them understand Tae kwon Do. Learning the art is different to observing the art… So just like the root looking to find what type soil it is in and the best direction to push its way through the soil to find nourishment, so the student is hungry for knowledge and open to learning.
The techniques you will learn at the start of your path through Tae Kwon Do are the foundation to defence, and like all things practiced and improved will become some of the most important skills acquired… Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you are just starting with the easy stuff.
"Some skills can take a day to learn and a lifetime to master."
The Tenets
The Tenets of Tae Kwon Do (A bit like rules…) You will never be ordered to observe the tenets, but you would be expected to follow them freely because you wish to.
When you read the inspirational meaning to the patterns, you will see on many occasions that these tenets are being followed, it is this spirit that should give you inspiration even if you don’t absolutely understand the meaning.
- Courtesy:(Ye Ui) To be thoughtful and considerate of others. Tae Kwon Do students and instructors should be polite, and show consideration for others.
